What is a cookie?
A cookie (or tracker) is a small text file placed on the user’s device (computer, smartphone, tablet) when browsing a website. It is saved by the web browser and can be read during subsequent visits to the same site.
Legal basis
The placing of cookies is governed by Article 5§§3 of Directive 2002/58/EC as amended by Directive 2009/136/CE (ePrivacy Directive), transposed into French law at Article 82 of the Data Protection Act. The collection of personal data via cookies is also subject to the GDPR (EU Regulation 2016/679).
Cookie types by lifespan
- Session cookie: deleted automatically when the browser is closed. No data is retained on the device between visits.
- Persistent cookie: retained on the device until its expiry date or manual deletion by the user. The CNIL recommendation sets a maximum retention period of 13 months from the date of first placement.

Analytical cookies measure website audience (number of visitors, pages viewed, navigation paths) in order to improve the user experience. Privacy-friendly alternative
MARKAGENIE is considering using Matomo (self-hosted) or Plausible Analytics as an alternative to Google Analytics. These tools, configured without third-party cookies and with full IP address anonymisation, may be exempt from consent under conditions defined by the CNIL (deliberation no. 2020-091 of 17 September 2020).
Marketing and third-party cookies
Marketing and advertising cookies enable the delivery of personalised advertisements, tracking of advertising conversions, and the building of audience profiles. They are always subject to explicit prior consent.
Social media sharing buttons
Some pages may feature links to social networks (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.). These links are implemented as plain text links or static icons, without any third-party SDK integration or social JavaScript tags. No third-party cookies are placed by these elements without your explicit consent.
If interactive sharing buttons were to be integrated in the future, this policy would be updated and your consent sought in advance via the CMP banner.
