Laser Marking Fact Sheet

What is laser marking?

Laser marking is a permanent engraving technique using a concentrated light beam to modify the surface of a material. Unlike traditional techniques — pad printing, screen printing, inkjet — it requires no consumables: no ink, no solvent, no mechanical contact with the part.

The process involves directing a high-intensity laser beam at the surface to be marked. Depending on the material and power setting, the laser can cause oxidation, carbonisation, ablation, or fusion marking. The result is a permanent mark, resistant to UV, solvents, and light abrasion.

MARKAGENIE operates on-site with portable equipment, or in-workshop for production runs. Our technicians define the optimal parameters for each material to achieve maximum contrast without altering the mechanical properties of the part.

Nos équipements

  • Laser Fibre YAG 20 W / 50 W — métaux, plastiques techniques, marquages haute cadence
  • Laser CO₂ 40 W — bois, verre, cuir, acrylique, textiles industriels
  • Laser UV — matériaux sensibles à la chaleur, polymères transparents, PCB
  • Station portable — intervention directe sur vos lignes de production, sans démontage

Questions fréquentes

Everything you need to know before working with us.

What materials do you work with?
Our laser equipment covers virtually all industrial materials: ferrous and non-ferrous metals (steel, stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, copper, brass), technical polymers (ABS, polycarbonate, PEEK, polyamide), composites, wood, leather, and certain glasses. Contact us to validate compatibility for your specific material.
What is the minimum marking size?
With our YAG fibre laser, we achieve a resolution of 0.05 mm, enabling very fine markings: characters as small as 0.3 mm in height for medical or electronic applications. The practical minimum size depends on the material and the contrast level required.
Do you work directly on our production lines?
Yes. MARKAGENIE has a portable station enabling on-site intervention without dismantling your equipment. We can integrate the marking into your production flow or intervene during a planned shutdown. A preliminary technical audit ensures the intervention is priced accurately.
Is laser marking permanent?
Laser marking is considered permanent under normal industrial conditions. It resists solvents, oils, light mechanical abrasion, and UV. It cannot be erased or falsified without damaging the surface, making it the reference for regulatory traceability: medical UDI, CE marking, aerospace traceability AS9100.
