What is DTG?
DTG (Direct To Garment) is a textile printing technique in which an inkjet print head works directly on the garment laid flat on a platen. Unlike transfers (DTF, screen printing), water-based inks penetrate the fabric fibres — the result is integrated into the support, not applied on top.
On dark textiles, a pre-treatment (PTM) is applied before printing to ensure ink adhesion and vibrancy, particularly for the base white layer which acts as an opacifying coat. The result: a print that is part of the fabric itself, with a natural hand feel — you feel the textile, not the print.

What is the difference between DTG and DTF?
DTG integrates ink directly into the fabric fibres (natural hand feel, zero thickness added). DTF applies a heat-bond transfer onto the textile (slightly textured to the touch). DTG is optimised for cotton — it is the benchmark technique for t-shirts and cotton sweatshirts with photos or complex designs. DTF works on virtually all textiles, including pure polyester: ideal when the substrate is not cotton.
Does the result last over time?
Yes, with proper care. Machine wash at 30–40°C inside out, no high-temperature tumble drying. Under these conditions, durability is comparable to embroidery. The ink, integrated into the fibres, does not peel like a a conventional transfer. Avoid direct ironing on the print.
I only need one piece — is that possible?
Yes, that is precisely DTG's strong suit: no minimum order, no setup cost. Whether you order 1 piece or 500, quality and unit price are identical. It is the ideal technique for prototypes, personalised gifts or testing a colour before moving to a large run.
My sweatshirt is polyester — will DTG work?
DTG is optimised for cotton. On pure polyester fabric, inks adhere less well and colours may lack vibrancy. We recommend DTF (Direct To Film) for polyester — the result is significantly better. If your sweatshirt is a cotton/polyester blend with at least 50% cotton, DTG remains a valid option ; contact us with the fabric reference for confirmation.
